David has loved animals since he was a child. While attending graduate school he worked for numerous horse breeders, ranchers, outfitters, and equestrians from California to New Jersey. He is a member of the USEF, USDF, and Backcountry Horsemen of America. He has attended numerous natural horsemanship and classical equitation clinics and seminars. As an independent filmmaker he has produced numerous videos and DVDs that feature horses in the U.S. and Mexico.

David has served on the faculty of Santa Fe Community College and Western New Mexico University where he has taught Media Arts & Film. Prior to forming Skyhorse Films, David worked in a variety of media technology and production groups for UCLA, for The Walt Disney Company, and Colorado Public Radio. David holds a B.A. from the University of Denver, an M.A. from New Mexico Highlands University, and an M.F.A from New Mexico State University.
